Hunt Reimagines Its Popular Aerodynamicist Wheels: Lighter, Faster, and Tuned for Modern Road Tires
Explore Hunt's revamped 2025 Aerodynamicist carbon wheels. Lighter, faster, and aero-optimized for 28-30mm tires with class-leading performance. Specs & data.

Hunt Bike Wheels carved out a significant space in the cycling market by offering performance-oriented wheelsets that challenged established brands, often at a considerably lower price. The Aerodynamicist range, in particular, became synonymous with this high-value, high-performance approach. Now, Hunt seeks to build on that success, unveiling a completely revamped Aerodynamicist carbon disc wheel lineup for 2025, boasting significant improvements in weight, aerodynamic efficiency, and optimization for today's wider road race tires.

According to Hunt, these new wheels are the culmination of a rigorous three-year development cycle involving over 47,000 hours of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. Paddy Brown, Hunt’s Senior Design Engineer, highlights the dedication involved: "The Aerodynamicist range is by far our most popular, and after many successful years, we have worked hard to refine and upgrade all three wheelsets with cutting-edge aerodynamic developments, enhanced materials, and performance-driven design improvements."
The core objective? To create the fastest road race wheels within their respective depth categories using conventional manufacturing methods (excluding their ultra-wide Limitless technology), specifically when paired with popular 28mm and 30mm tires.

Three Depths, Two Spoke Options, One Goal: Speed
The new Aerodynamicist lineup comes in three distinct depth combinations:
- 34/34mm: Aimed at climbers seeking an aero advantage without a weight penalty.
- 44/46mm: A versatile all-rounder balancing aerodynamics and handling.
- 54/58mm: The deepest option, maximizing aerodynamic gains for flatter, faster courses.

Notably, the two deeper sets feature front- and rear-specific rim profiles. Hunt explains this decision stems from analyzing airflow differences; the front wheel encounters cleaner air, while the rear interacts with air disturbed by the frame and rider. Consequently, front rims feature a blunter, wider profile (up to 31.7mm external on the 54mm front), while rear rims are slightly narrower and deeper to optimize airflow and reduce material where possible.
All models share a 22mm internal rim width with hooked beads, offering compatibility with tubeless and tube-type tires ranging from 25mm up to 50mm, although aerodynamic performance is explicitly optimized around 28-30mm widths.
Pricing and Availability
The 2025 Hunt Aerodynamicist range is available for pre-order now, with stock expected from late May through mid-June 2025. While Hunt built its reputation on aggressive pricing, these advanced features and performance gains come with an updated price structure. All wheels are covered by Hunt's H_Care Lifetime Crash Replacement program.

Takeaways
Hunt's updated Aerodynamicist range represents a significant evolution, directly addressing modern road cycling trends with wider tire optimization and a keen focus on balancing low weight with validated aerodynamic gains. The choice between steel and premium carbon spokes allows riders to tailor their setup based on budget and performance priorities. While prices have increased, the claimed performance figures, extensive testing data, and features like specific rim profiles and H_Cyclo technology (on the 54_58) suggest Hunt aims to maintain its competitive edge in the performance road wheel market.
