The Rose Hobo Puts a 5 kg Rack on a Steel Frame for Commutes and Camping

The Rose Hobo costs €1,300 and comes with an integrated front rack that holds 5 kg, which is enough for a change of clothes or a small tent but not much more. It's built on a 25CrMo4 steel frame with 55 mm tire clearance, a carbon fork, and Shimano CUES 1×10 drivetrain—basically everything you need to ride to work, hit a gravel loop, or disappear for the weekend without needing a second bike. The rack mounts are pre-installed, the frame has 14 total mounting points, and it ships with WTB Venture 650b×47c tires. UDH derailleur mount means you can swap in future drivetrains without frame obsolescence.

The tradeoff is carrying capacity. Five kilograms sounds practical until you're trying to pack for two nights or hauling groceries—then you're either adding a rear rack or keeping loads light. CUES is reliable and cheap to maintain, but it's a budget groupset; shifts won't feel as crisp as higher-tier stuff, and the 11-48 cassette with a 42-tooth chainring gives you a narrow top-end range if you ride fast pavement sections. Still, for the price, you're getting a frame that'll outlast most carbon and a platform that works whether you're commuting or camping. It even includes a Knog Oi bell, which is a weirdly thoughtful touch.
