Apidura's New Bolt-On Top Tube Bags Ditch Straps, Claim 4+ Watts Saved

Apidura's new Aero Bolt-On Top Tube Modules ditch straps entirely and screw directly into top-tube bosses with M5 bolts. The standard version holds 0.4 liters and weighs 95 grams; the Long doubles capacity to 0.8 liters at 120 grams. Both use a carbon plate and high-modulus rods internally to keep the bag from sagging or shifting under load. The standard gets a magnetic closure for mid-ride snack access. The Long uses a waterproof zipper. Dylan Johnson's wind tunnel work claims 4.2 watts saved solo, 5.2 when paired with Apidura's frame bag. Sofia Gomez-Villafane and Robin Gemperle both won at Unbound with these bags mounted.

The catch is obvious: you need top-tube mounts, which rules out a lot of older frames and some newer ones that skipped them. Apidura gives you 5cm of fore-aft play to dial position behind the stem, but if your frame geometry puts those bosses too far forward or back, you're stuck. The magnetic closure is clever for race pace, but magnets lose grip when wet or if you overpack the bag. At $98 for the small and $141 for the long, you're paying for aero testing and rigidity — fair if you're chasing watts, less compelling if you just need a place for a sandwich.
