Wolf Tooth ALT Performance: Premium Pedal Internals at $90 Less
Wolf Tooth's $160 ALT Performance pedal uses their premium bearing setup in a forged body. SPD-compatible, 326g, with a 534mm² platform.
Wolf Tooth's new ALT Performance pedal runs the same three-cartridge-bearing-plus-igus-bushing internals as their pricier options, just wrapped in a forged aluminum body instead of CNC-machined billet. At $160, that's roughly $90 less than the top-tier Waveform. The 534mm² platform and 15mm stack height put it in competitive territory with Shimano's XT trail pedals, but the open center design should clear mud faster—useful if your only ride window is a 5am gravel loop that cuts through whatever weather showed up overnight. SPD compatibility means your existing cleats work, and at 326 grams per pair, it's light enough that you won't notice the swap.
The fixed 55mm Q-factor is worth checking against your current setup. If you're running a narrow stance on road pedals and switching over, that width might feel off until you adapt—or it might not suit your hip geometry at all. The 5° of float and 12° release angle are middle-of-the-road numbers: enough movement to protect knees without feeling sloppy. For the data-minded rider tracking power through intervals, the generous platform should eliminate the flex and hotspots that plague smaller bodies. Whether that justifies upgrading from functional pedals you already own is the real question—but if you're building up a new bike or your current clips are shot, the ALT Performance looks like a solid place to land without paying the boutique premium.
