The 2019 Pinarello Grevil+ Looks Like it Melted in the Sun

The Grevil is Pinarello’s first foray into the gravel bike market, mixing the high performance and aero features from its road line with the durability and compliance from CX & mountain bikes. The new Grevil is still meant to be a fast road bike, just no longer limited to smooth roads.

The geometry of the bike follows existing trends in the gravel bike market, with a slightly higher than average stack height and a slacker seat tube angle to improve deflection in the seatpost.

The Grevil is claimed to employ all sorts of other carbon-wizardry which allows for the perfect mix of “asymmetry and reactivity.” Essentially, the layup was designed to improve comfort without sacrificing too much performance.

Aerodynamics was a big consideration in designing the bike. For instance, up front, there is a ‘Fork Flap’, a small shroud that covers the disc caliper to improve airflow. Makes sense, didn’t need the  vomit inducing text label printed on the bike though. There’s also the heavily shaped, concave down tube which places the bottle in a recess.

The new bike features clearances for 42mm tires on a 700c wheel or 2.1-inch on 650b wheels. Pinarello did investigate using larger 29er tires but claims it would have required the chainstays to be too long for the desired handling characteristics.

The bike is compatible with both 1x and double drivetrains in either electronic or mechanical varieties. The front derailleur mount is also removable. The top-end Grevil+ is constructed from Toray T1100G UD fibers. The entry-level Grevil model is constructed using Toray T700 fibers.

Both models of the bike will be available in six different paint jobs.
