The Anti-Complex: REEB brings back the American-Made Steel Hardtail
REEB Cycles relaunches the Re:Dikyelous steel hardtail. We analyze why the 130mm geometry and modular dropouts make this a practical choice for the deliberate cyclist.
130mm of front travel on a steel frame is the sweet spot for a specific kind of rider. It sits right at the intersection of "capable enough for technical descents" and "efficient enough for a Tuesday lunch ride." REEB Cycles, the Longmont-based fabricator born out of the Oskar Blues brewery culture, has resurrected their original hardtail, the Re:Dikyelous, after a five-year hiatus.
Geometry Over Nostalgia
While this is a "heritage" release for their 15th anniversary, the numbers aren't stuck in 2011. The updated geometry features a 65.5-degree head angle and a snappy 420-435mm chainstay length. This is significant because it modernizes the hardtail experience—you get the dampening characteristics of American-made Velospec steel without the twitchy, over-the-bars feeling of vintage geometry. It’s designed to handle the chunk of the Rockies without requiring a degree in suspension linkage kinetics to maintain.

The Spec That Matters: The Portage Dropout 🛠️
The most critical feature for the tinkerer isn't the flashy paint or the limited edition number; it's the modular Portage dropout system.
In an industry obsessed with new standards, this dropout system offers actual longevity. It allows for a standard Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) setup or a switch to singlespeed/Gates Carbon Drive. Combined with the 3D-printed chainstay yokes (clearing 2.6" tires), this frame adapts to how you want to ride in five years, not just how you ride today. For a garage mechanic, that adaptability is worth more than carbon weight savings.

Why It Matters
- Maintenance Efficiency: No rear shock, no pivot bearings, no linkage. Just ride, wipe it down, and repeat. Ideally suited for the time-crunched cyclist.
- Local Fabrication: Hand-welded in Colorado means tighter quality control and supports a supply chain that doesn't rely on trans-Pacific shipping containers.
- Versatility: The adjustable dropouts allow you to change the bike's personality entirely—from a geared trail ripper to a silent, belt-drive singlespeed for winter training. 🚲
