Redshift Mousetrap Now Fits SPD-SL and Look Keo
Redshift's Mousetrap flat pedal adapters now fit SPD-SL and Look Keo. $59.99, ~170g per pair, tool-free. Who actually benefits — and who shouldn't bother.
Sixty dollars to make your road pedals work like flat pedals sounds absurd until you count the times you've skipped a ten-minute errand because clipping in meant changing shoes. Redshift's Mousetrap already existed for SPD; the new versions fit SPD-SL and Look Keo, which is the half of the market that actually has this problem — road cleats are useless off the bike. The adapter is an 80 x 105 mm glass-filled nylon platform, roughly 10 mm thick, sitting flush with the top of the clipless mechanism so your foot lands on plastic instead of a lollipop of carbon. 170 g per pair for SPD-SL, 160 g for Keo. They go on and come off by hand, no tools, and magnets snap the pair together so they don't migrate to the bottom of a gear bin.

For a dad with a bike on the porch and twelve free minutes, that's the whole pitch: ride to preschool pickup in sneakers, pull the adapters at the door, do your intervals later on the same pedals. The tradeoff is that you're carrying 170 g and two bits of plastic in a jersey pocket or saddlebag any time you want the option mid-ride, and if you leave them at home the trip back is still a clipless trip back. Redshift says twisting your foot won't pop them loose, which is the claim worth watching — that's the failure mode that matters. The 90-day trial covers it. If you own two bikes and one already has flats, skip this.
