I’ve been watching the line between "gravel bike" and "cross-country mountain bike" get blurrier by the month. It seems like we’ve finally reached the point where the line has been erased and redrawn in titanium.

That mystery bike Moots was teasing has a name: the Scramble. And it’s a fascinating, perplexing, and beautiful machine.

On one hand, it’s built around drop bars and gets its compliance from Moots' well-regarded Routt gravel line. On the other hand… well, just look at the rest of the spec sheet. It’s a full-on mountain bike.

The Scramble is built around a 100mm RockShox SID SL fork. It has clearance for 29 x 2.4-inch tires. It uses Boost spacing, a 73mm threaded bottom bracket, and a UDH. The front triangle is borrowed directly from their MXC mountain bike.

The source article asks the obvious question: "Is it a gravel bike or a mountain bike?" The answer: "Yes."

I think this is the logical end-point of the "adventure bike" category. It's not a gravel bike for racing on smooth dirt roads. It’s a "drop-bar mountain bike" purpose-built for tackling things like the Tour Divide or just disappearing for a week on rugged, unknown terrain. It’s absolutely covered in mounts: three in the front triangle, one under the down tube, a bento box mount, another mount under the top tube for a frame bag, and rear rack eyelets. It’s a cargo mule.

The complete build, which features a mechanical Shimano GRX/XT mix, is... not cheap. The starting price is $9,499. But then, this is a US-made Moots titanium frame. It's an heirloom, not a disposable racer. And that new topo-anodized finish is stunning.

It seems Moots is testing the waters for this ultra-niche, as the Scramble is a limited-run bike. You can only place an order between now and the end of January 2026.

It’s an incredibly cool, purpose-built machine. It's the kind of bike that makes you want to quit your job, load up, and just start pedaling.
