Lachlan Morton Returns and Breaks Everesting Record for Real
Lachlan Morton has officially broken the Everesting record, setting a time of 7 hours, 29 minutes and 57 seconds. This attempt came less than a week after his previous attempt at breaking the record was nullified by Hells 500 due to bad elevation data.
Morton returned to the backside of Rist Canyon outside Fort Collins, CO for his second go, but used a slightly shorter stretch of road to repeat (Strava segment).
He finished his everesting record ten minutes faster than the previous record, held by Keegan Swenson at 7 hours, 40 minutes and 5 seconds.
Before Morton’s second attempt, Hells 500 verified the new segment using LiDAR data and help from OpenTopography. Morton rode an extra lap to be doubly sure he hit the 8,848 m mark.
