Hunt 4AM Limitless Wheels: 1,156g, Mixed Depths, and a $2,559 Price Tag

Hunt's 4AM Limitless wheelset uses mixed depths (49.5mm front, 47mm rear) and carbon spokes to hit 1,156g. The trade-off: it's their priciest wheel yet.

Hunt's new 4AM Limitless wheelset uses a mixed-depth design: 49.5mm front, 47mm rear. The front rim is also wider (34.2mm vs 30mm), which Hunt says prioritizes aero gains where airflow is cleaner. The rear stays shallower to cut weight where turbulent air makes deep rims less effective. It's the same logic Roval used on the Rapide CLX III.

The carbon-spoked version hits 1,156g for the pair. That's 139g lighter than the Enve SES 4.5 Pro and, according to Hunt's Silverstone wind tunnel data, 1.4 watts faster at 45 km/h with 30mm tires. They also claim it performs within 0.1 watt of significantly deeper wheels like the DT Swiss 55 ARC (1,479g) and Reserve 57/64 (1,554g). If those numbers hold in variable outdoor conditions—and that's always the catch with controlled tunnel testing—you're getting near-deep-section speed without the weight or handling penalty in crosswinds.

The carbon spokes are Vonoa Ti_UD, 1.7g each, with recessed nipples. Fifteen up front, eighteen rear. Hunt says the stiffer spokes let them reduce spoke count without losing rigidity, which also cuts drag. The hubs are Hunt's Chase SLC with a 7.5-degree engagement ratchet and a choice of steel or CeramicSpeed hybrid bearings. Here's the catch: carbon spokes with steel bearings cost £1,959 / $2,559. Upgrade to CeramicSpeed and you're at £2,449 / $3,159. That's still 15% cheaper than Pogačar's Enves, but it's also Hunt's most expensive wheelset yet.

If you don't need the carbon spokes, the steel-spoked version (20 front, 24 rear Pillar bladed spokes) weighs 1,283g and costs £1,659 / $2,359. Hunt claims it's still 1.13 watts faster than the Enve 4.5 Pro. I haven't put miles on these yet, but the spec that matters is the 23mm internal width—it's optimized for 28–30mm tires, which is where most of us live now anyway. If you're still running 25mm, the aero profile won't work as intended.

The 4AMs ship late June. The steel-spoked 5AM Limitless (the deeper 58/55mm version) ships next week and weighs 1,339g at £1,699 / $2,399. If you're deciding between them: the 4AMs are lighter and likely more stable in wind, but the 5AMs will be faster on flat, calm days. That 8mm difference in depth isn't huge, but it's enough to matter if you race crits or spend time in the drops at threshold.
