Human Powered Health Is Racing a Yellow Sponge Through France
Factor sends SpongeBob and Patrick Star graphics to the Tour de France Femmes on its ONE aero platform. Here's what's actually under the cartoon paint.
Factor just put SpongeBob SquarePants on a WorldTour aero bike. Not a subtle nod, not a tiny decal — full character graphics across the ONE's broad tube profiles, racing the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift with Human Powered Health and Ma Petite Entreprise.
The artwork comes from Jason Freeny's XXRAY series, which splits cartoon characters down the middle to expose imagined anatomical structures. It's a strange fit for a race bike until you remember what Factor actually does: the ONE is engineered from the inside out, with aerodynamic architecture hidden beneath the visible carbon. The parallel writes itself, and Factor's creative director ran with it. Human Powered Health gets the yellow-and-blue SpongeBob edition. Ma Petite Entreprise rides Patrick Star in pink and purple. Both sit on the same ONE chassis underneath — SRAM Red AXS drivetrains, Black Inc 62 wheels.
This isn't Factor's first artist collaboration. Earlier this season they raced Vexx-painted Monzas at Paris-Roubaix, and they've done the $25,000 Bugatti ONE that wasn't even UCI-legal. The SpongeBob editions are different mostly because of sheer recognizability. A five-year-old watching the race broadcast will spot these bikes before any custom fade or sponsor decal package.
Whether that matters depends on what you think bike racing should look like. Factor's brand officer David Millar frames it as expanding the audience for women's cycling — bright colors, familiar characters, a reason for casual viewers to pay attention. Critics might see it as a distraction from the racing itself. Both readings are probably correct. The bikes are available for purchase in "very limited editions," which typically means expensive and allocation-controlled, though Factor hasn't published pricing.
The practical question for anyone tempted: would you actually ride SpongeBob graphics on your weekend group ride? The ONE underneath is genuinely fast equipment. The paint job is a statement that some riders will love and others will find impossible to take seriously. Factor seems fine with that tension.
