ERGON SR Allroad Core Circular Saddle: Pioneering Sustainability in Bicycle Accessories
Introducing the ERGON SR Allroad Core Circular Saddle, a groundbreaking achievement in ERGON’s “GreenLab Circular” program that showcases their dedication to material recycling and waste reduction. This innovative saddle sets a new standard by allowing all of its components to be returned to the material cycle at the end of its lifespan. Through a collaborative effort between ERGON’s team and BASF’s expertise in plastics and coatings, this project opens up new possibilities for sustainable production of bicycle accessories.
The SR Allroad Core Circular saddle boasts a renowned design featuring CORE HD® technology, which incorporates a one-of-a-kind “Ergonomic Core” made from BASF Infinergy®. In this proof of concept, all the plastic parts of the SR Allroad Core Circular belong to a family of BASF polyurethanes, enabling them to be easily recycled as a single unit. The saddle rails, made of stainless steel (Tinox), can be manually detached. By forgoing color pigments and surface coatings, the saddle maintains an “undyed” appearance while upholding a high-quality recyclate. As a durable top layer, the saddle utilizes NovaCoat-D from BASF, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional covers.
Since 2010, ERGON has been dedicated to environmental preservation through its GreenLab initiative, striving to introduce more sustainable products to the market. Building upon this commitment, the ergonomic specialists from Koblenz have expanded their efforts with the launch of the “GreenLab Circular” sustainability program. The program encompasses a wider range of products, including the new GXR grip, with more innovations to come.
