DT Swiss FR 1500 DEG DF Wheels: Silver Rims and Anti-Kickback Tech
DT Swiss FR 1500 Classic DEG DF wheels use anti-kickback hub tech and silver rims. At $1,033, here's what matters and what doesn't.
DT Swiss just dropped a limited edition silver version of their FR 1500 wheelset, built around the 240 DEG hub with Degrees of Freedom internals. The DEG DF system is the actual story here: it reduces pedal kickback by letting the cassette rotate up to 20 degrees before the chain tensions. You can toggle between 0, 10, or 20 degrees of float without tools, which matters if you're chasing suspension feel on chunky descents. The FR 541 rims are 30mm internal, laced with 32 DT Revolite spokes in a 3-cross pattern, and rated to 140kg. Weight is 2,030g for a 29" pair. They're Boost Trail spacing only, 6-bolt rotors, SRAM XD driver standard (MicroSpline sold separately).

Here's the catch: at €899 / $1,033 USD, you're paying a premium for the DEG DF tech and the shiny silver aesthetic. If pedal kickback isn't a problem you've noticed—or if you don't run enough sag to feel it—you're funding a solution you don't need. I haven't ridden these, but the mechanism is straightforward and Mike Kazimer's review of the DEG DF hub is worth reading if you want real-world feedback. The 140kg weight limit and ASTM 5 rating suggest these are built for aggressive trail riding, not XC weight weenies. If you're on Shimano and don't want to buy an extra freehub body, look elsewhere.
