Colnago’s new E64 e-bike aims to bring the legacy of the brand to the modern world of pedal-assisted bikes. The E64 is built around an Ebikemotion motor, which can deliver up to 250 watts of assistance. This is a hub-based system, which is connected to a battery that is stored in the down tube. On top of that, an additional external auxiliary battery can be added to boost range.
The E64 weighs only 12 kg (26 pounds), including the battery, thanks to a very light frame and fork coupled to the Ebikemotion servo assistance system which is the lightest on the market. The bike uses monocoque carbon fibre construction and is painted to in a pattern that looks like the lugged tube-to-tube construction found on Colnago’s other C-series bikes, unless you’re looking closely, it’s pretty hard to differentiate the E64 from a regular non-assisted bike.
There are three methods of use for the assistance, which can be viewed on the luminous button on the top tube. With this button, you can turn the system on and off and check the battery charge status. An additional “power pack” can supply an additional 250 watts when mounted on the seat tube.
The Ebikemotion system integrates with a smartphone application which, when used with a heart rate monitor, will allow riders to set a threshold beyond which the motor will kick in. Pretty cool.
