absoluteBLACK's 2.6g carbon tubeless valves are the lightest available, but the bottom-seal design means no removable core. Worth the tradeoff?

absoluteBLACK's 2.6g Carbon Tubeless Valves Have One Big Tradeoff

absoluteBLACK's new Aether tubeless valves weigh 2.6g for the short version, 3.1g for the longer one. They're carbon-reinforced polymer, not aluminum, which lets them use shapes a CNC mill can't make. The company says this allows "more refined internal geometry," though they don't specify what that means in practice. The valves use a bottom-sealing design instead of a removable core — inspired by a 1915 patent — which creates a larger internal air channel and theoretically reduces sealant clog risk. They work with standard Presta pump heads and rim drillings.

Here's the catch: no removable core means you can't swap it out if it fails, and you can't use core-removal injectors for sealant. absoluteBLACK also clarifies these aren't high-flow valves like some MTB options — airflow is standard. The appeal is purely rotational weight savings, which matters most at the rim. At $29.95 per pair, they're cheaper than I expected for what's likely the lightest tubeless valve available. Whether 4–5g saved per wheel is worth losing core serviceability depends on how often you wrench and how much you care about grams you'll never feel.
