A First Look at Train Dreams
My first impression of the Train Dreams movie trailer. It looks like a rare, powerful adaptation that captures the "unexpected depth and beauty" of a single, quiet life.
I just watched the new trailer for Train Dreams, and it’s one of those rare adaptations that looks like it might have actually captured the feel of the book. The film, based on Denis Johnson's stunning novella, follows a logger named Robert Grainier (Joel Edgerton) through the rapidly changing American West in the early 20th century. It’s not a story about big, epic events, but about the "unexpected depth and beauty" found in a seemingly ordinary life—which, to me, is always the most compelling story to tell.
With a cast this strong (Felicity Jones, Kerry Condon, and William H. Macy) and a director who seems to understand the source material's quiet, poetic power, I'm genuinely hopeful. It’s the kind of story that sticks with you—a portrait of a life, with all its small labors, joys, and devastating losses. I'll be watching this one for sure when it lands on Netflix (November 21).
