Glacier 50: Mystery Ranch’s Streamlined Backpacking Workhorse
The Mystery Ranch Glacier 50 trims weight while keeping key features like a detachable hip pack, full-length side zip, and carbon fiber framing.

Despite concerns about its future under Yeti, Mystery Ranch continues to deliver. The Glacier 50 is a refined version of its popular Glacier 70, offering serious backpacking capability in a smaller, more streamlined package. Built for multi-day treks, it keeps the brand’s signature ruggedness intact while introducing new weight-saving materials and a host of practical features.

One standout addition is the detachable lid, which converts into a hip pack—perfect for quick side hikes. A full-length side zipper makes accessing gear a breeze, and the pack’s carbon fiber frame stabilizes loads while reducing weight. The Future Yoke system ensures a customizable fit, and a five-point waistbelt enhances comfort on long hauls. The Glacier 50 is available now in men’s and women’s versions for $369.

It's really cool seeing that Mystery Ranch still holds to the backpack design I've been using for nearly 20 years. My Dana Design pack, the brand which was reborn in 2015 as Mystery Ranch, refuses to give up and performs like day one.
