Komoot’s New Gravel Routes: Ready-Made Adventures for Cyclists
Thanks to the ever-growing 160,000 gravel routes available on the Komoot platform, users can now easily find and browse routes for off-road adventures on an interactive map. With star ratings and filters including distance, duration, and elevation, Komoot ensures that every cyclist, regardless of experience, can find their ideal route.
Customizable and Community-Driven Routes
Each recommended route on Komoot can be immediately navigated, saved for later, or customized in the Komoot Route Planner. After the ride, users can rate tours, upload images from the trail, and add highlights to share their experiences. This continuous feedback loop helps improve route search results and coverage, enriching the gravel community’s shared knowledge.
Revolutionizing Gravel Riding
Following the pioneering launch of the gravel-specific Route Planner seven years ago, Komoot has introduced another industry-leading feature. This latest update makes off-road adventures more accessible and enjoyable for riders worldwide. Recognizing that the concept of ‘gravel riding’ varies across different regions, the new Gravel Routes are based on community feedback, ensuring riders always find the best spots. With Komoot, users can tap into local expertise to discover and navigate top gravel routes and share their insights with the community.
Smart Routing Technology
Komoot’s smart routing technology, a routing algorithm that blends community-based insights with advanced mapping, lies at the heart of the new Gravel Routes search. The algorithm prioritizes safe, responsible tracks suitable for gravel bikes and favors popular trails and highlights among gravel cyclists. The result is over 160,000 ready-made gravel routes worldwide, with this number continuously growing through fresh community input.
Simplified Route Search
Finding a ready-made gravel route on Komoot is now easier than ever. Users can head to the new 'Routes' tab in the app or desktop menu, select 'gravel riding' as their sport type, and enter a location. Suggested routes appear on a map interface showing tour lines, start points, and directions, with star ratings highlighting the community’s favorite routes. Further customization is available through filters for elevation, duration, distance, and itinerary type.
Post-Ride Community Engagement
After an off-road adventure, it’s time to review. By rating tours and adding highlights with tips and images, users contribute to the community, helping others make the most of their gravel riding experiences.
Komoot’s Commitment to User-Driven Development
“Combining industry-leading technology with community insights and tips is at the heart of what we do at Komoot,” said Jonas Spengler, Co-Founder and CTO at Komoot. “Our community plays a key role in our product development: we invest a lot of resources into user research because we want to design features that can truly fulfill our users’ needs and expectations.
