Helicopter Blows Peloton Off the Road

There is plenty of danger riding in the peloton, being blown off course by a helicopter is a particularly unusual one. But, that was the unlikely cause of a group crash during the CP Olomouc road race in the Czech Republic.

While it’s easy to blame the helicopter pilot for causing the crash, witnesses said the helicopter is an air ambulance that had been called to treat a racer who was injured during the race.

Incredibly, this isn’t the first time a helicopter has caused riders to the hit the deck.  Last year, during stage six of the Vuelta a España a race helicopter pushed barriers across the road and into rider’s path.

More helicopter weirdness?  Patrick Lefevere’s son Thomas appeared in court this month after allegedly flying a helicopter over the peloton without informing the French air force during the 2018 Paris-Roubaix.
