Fizik has just unveiled its latest flagship road cycling shoe, the Vega Carbon, a pro-level offering that aims to deliver a new echelon of comfort and performance for serious racers. Priced at £389.99 / $470 / €390, this shoe replaces the previous Vento Stabilita and introduces several key innovations, most notably a wider fit and the elimination of the traditional lasting board. One of the most significant structural changes in the Vega Carbon is the absence of the lasting board – that flat layer (often cardboard) found under the insole of most shoes. Instead, Fizik has bonded the upper directly to the full-carbon outsole. This "integrated outsole" design, while offering minimal direct weight savings according to Fizik, is claimed to reduce stack height, enhance stiffness, improve torsional rigidity, and provide better midfoot support, moving the foot closer to the pedal spindle for improved power transfer.
