2019 Giro d'Italia Stage 6 Recap

Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) gave up control of the pink jersey to UAE-Team Emirates rider Valerio Conti today as Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec’s Fausto Masnada took the first Grand Tour stage win of his career on Stage 6 of the Giro d’Italia.

Masnada was the strongest of two survivors of the day’s large breakaway, making the race-winning attack on the ascent of the Coppa Casarinelle around 20km from the line. Conti was the only member of the breakaway strong enough to join Masnada on his way to the stage win.

Masnada easily rode away from Conti in the final run up to the finish, but Conti came out of the day with the overall race lead.

After the incredible rain, race neutralization and Tom Dumoulin’s abandonment at Stage 5, Stage 6 was a fairly normal day at the Giro d’Italia.

Primoz Roglic was involved in a crash along with several others, but did not seem to be badly injured.
