Viviani sprints to victory at CEGORR

Elia Viviani (Deceuninck-QuickStep) snagged his second WorldTour win of the season on Sunday when he sprinted to victory at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, holding  off Australian rival Caleb Ewan and South African Daryl Impey in a tight  finish.

The 163 kilometer  (101 mile) race, which starts and finishes in Geelong,  outside Melbourne, and takes in the world-renowned Great Ocean Road, saw a finishing time of just  in 3 hours 54 minutes and 35 seconds by Viviani.

While Viviani had a leadout from teammate Michael Morkov, Ewan (Lotto Soudal) was boxed in, South African Daryl Impey (Mitchelton-Scott) tried an early sprint but ran out of gas. Ewan made a late charge and was making his way to Viviani, but simply ran out of road. Ewan, who was relegated from the stage-five win at last week’s Tour Down Under for headbutting in the final sprint has got to be frustrated.
