Winter Tires VS. All-Wheel Drive

Living in Colorado I hear about how everyone needs all-wheel-drive to get through the snow all the time, but I hardly hear a mention about the importance of putting on the right rubber.

UK’s AutoExpress put two Ford Kugas (Ford Escapes), one with front-wheel drive and one with all-wheel drive to the test to see which was better at powering up a snowy slope.

The front-wheel-drive car and the all-wheel drive version fail with summer tires on to a very similar degree. When equipped with winter tires, the front-driver obliterates the all-wheel drive Kuga.

It isn’t just about all-wheel if you live in snow-covered places like Colorado you mostly need the right set of tires.
