The 2019 Toyota 86 TRD Special won’t be getting a horsepower boost, I’ll get that question out of the way first. Slotting into position as the little brother to the upcoming Supra, it wouldn’t make sense to boost output. The Supra is due out in two flavors, a powerful turbo straight-six and a turbo-four cylinder, the later of which is slated to make 242 horsepower. That doesn’t leave any room to boost the 86.
The 2.0-liter Boxer-four engine in the 2019 Toyota 86 still puts out 205 horsepower and 156 lb-ft. of torque) in a car that weighs just under 2,800 lbs. The 86 TRD Special gets adds fun in other places by throwing in Brembo Brakes, SACHS dampers, a TRD Body Kit, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Tires and a TRD Exhaust. There’s also a special body kit and some tasteful design details throughout.
The only problem here is that Toyota is holding production numbers to 1,418 units.
