Specialized S-Works 3D-Printed Power Mirror Saddle

Specialized S-Works 3D-Printed Power Mirror Saddle
Specialized is known for heavily investing in R&D, as such they’ve released a steady stream of innovative products over the years. Specialized thinks its done it again, thanks to a 3D-printed liquid polymer called Mirror Technology.

Specialized collaborated with a company called Carbon which created Digital Light Synthesis – the process behind Mirror Technology to create its saddle prototype. The Digital Light Synthesis process allows for 3D-printed designs to have density variations throughout a design. Specialized used the technology to create a saddle which it says would take thousands of different foams to recreate in traditional saddle construction.

Creating numerous Mirror prototypes, Specialized has worked to fine tune comfort from its saddle. There’s a lot of potential to reduce vibration, increase comfort and stability and even customize a saddle to the rider.

Specialized is currently testing the tech in its Power Saddle which is being used by professional athletes from Bora – Hansgrohe and Decueninck – Quick-Step. They say a retail version should be available in 2020. Specialized also intends to use the tech for bartape.
