I’ve been on a bit of a canoe building kick lately. There’s just something about watching an artisan woodworker build something as functional as a boat. In the video above, Rihards Vidzickis, a member of the Latvian artisan group Northmen, goes through the process of creating a dugout canoe by hand. The process is time consuming and requires the right tools, know-how and a lot of muscle to turn a log into a water worthy canoe. It’s a cool look at a lost art, I recommend sticking with the video through to the end.
