Canyon Endurace:ON AL the Brand's First E-Road Bike

Canyon has launched its first electric road bike, the Endurace:ON AL. Based on Canyon’s Endurace road bike, the Endurace:ON AL is designed to give riders a boost when the road ticks up or your speed drops below 25kph.

The Endurace:ON is built on an alloy frameset with similar geometry to the standard Endurace road bike. To make space for the motor and battery, Canyon lengthened the chainstays by 10mm.

Quoted weight for a size medium bike is 15.2kg, of which 4.6kg is motor and battery.

Powered by Canyon’s Fazua Motor Unit

Power is supplied by a Fazua electric motor unit, providing a maximum 250 watts of power and 60Nm of torque. The motor sits in the bottom bracket shell. There’s a dual-sided torque meter which measures how much power you’re putting into the system via pedaling and matches the system’s output to avoid power surges and provide a more natural feel on the bike.

Canyon is the first bike maker to launch an ebike using the Fazua Black Pepper performance upgrade, which retunes the motor’s performance. The upgrade ups the power delivery curve, supporting a wider range of pedal cadences from 50 to 120rpm.

Once your speed gets over 25kph, the legally mandated cut-off for the ebike’s motor in many jurisdictions, the motor cuts out but supposedly doesn’t add any extra drag to the drivetrain.

There are three levels of support available, which you select using the controller mounted in the top of the down tube. The 250Wh Fazua battery sits in the underside of the down tube and is removable. Recharging the battery takes around 3.5 hours.

Canyon says that maximum range on a charge is around 90km.

Beefed Up Component Spec

Canyon beefed up the component spec for the Endurance:ON AL to better handle the extra power and weight from the motor and battery system.

Changes include a 48-tooth single chainring and Shimano GRX 11-speed gravel drivetrain with a clutched rear mech and 11-42t cassette. The GRX groupset features hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors for strong stopping power.
