2011 Shelby Supercars Ultimate Aero II

The 2011 Shelby Supercar Ultimate Aero II looks like a jet fighter – scrap that – jet fighters don’t even look this fast.

Featuring a 6.8 liter twin-turbocharged V8 that can hit 9,000 rpm and musters a frightening – yet awesome – yet frightening 1,350 horses, the 2011 Shelby Supercars Ultimate Aero II has its sights set on taking back the street-legal speed record currently held by the Bugatti Veryron Supersport. But power alone isn’t going to win that record.  Instead, the car weighs much, much, much less than the Veyron, helped in part by the world’s first one-piece carbon-fiber wheels that weigh less than 13 pounds a piece. Carbon fiber is used elsewhere as well pulling the weight down to 2,600 pounds.

The result? A power-to-weight ratio that’s over double that of the Veyron and it comes at a fraction of the price at $970,000.
